Report from the itSMF Conference

Compita attends the itSMF Conference 2009 in Birmingham.

The itSMF Conference 2009 took place at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham for the second consecutive year. Bringing together users and suppliers from across the IT Service Management spectrum, the main focus of the conference is ITIL and its related practices.

Key speakers this year included Ian Pearson, a fututologist, formerly of BT, now of Futurizon. One of his key points in exploring the (possible) technology vista of the next ten years was to emphasise how as computers outstrip humans in terms of data processing capability, the skills that will be in highest demand are social, caring ones, emphasising empathy, training, leadership, mentoring and strategic thinking.

Elsewhere on the schedule, Lynda Cooper of Service 2000 Ltd talked about adapting ITIL to support a programme of Business Process Outsourcing. Very interesting (and quite successful), but surely this is exactly what the CMMI® for Services has been designed for, with its broader, non-IT-centric worldview.
